Position Summary

The School of Design and Human Environment at Oregon State University invites applications for a full time (1.0 FTE), tenured faculty position at the rank of Assistant, Associate or Full professor in Merchandising Management.

We are looking for candidates who have worked with diverse populations and can collaborate well in a team-based environment, and have academic and/or significant professional experience related to apparel merchandising, management, marketing, retailing and consumer behavior. Candidates with industry experience and/or strong collaboration with industry partners are preferred. We are especially interested in scholars who will prepare undergraduate students to respond to the complex global challenges found in merchandising and business.

The successful candidate should be proficient in theory and management methods including consumer, retailer and manufacturing perspectives and demonstrate competence in quantitative/qualitative research methods to drive knowledge in the field.

Position responsibilities include, but are not limited to: maintaining a distinguished program of scholarship, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, collaborating and participating in undergraduate and graduate curriculum development, providing graduate student mentoring, and providing program leadership.

Salary:
Salary commensurate with experience; comprehensive benefits program

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Qualifications for Assistant Professor

  • A PhD in Merchandising, Management, Marketing, Retailing or a closely aligned field by the start date.
  • Evidence of potential in effective teaching
  • Demonstrated ability for research and grant writing
  • Evidence of ability to participate collaboratively in interdisciplinary research efforts
  • Strong communication skills
  • Relevant industry experience preferred

Minimum Qualifications for Associate and Full Professor

  • A PhD in Merchandising, Management, Marketing, Retailing or a closely aligned field.
  • An outstanding record of scholarship commensurate with a tenured position at a top-tier research university, including
    1. Peer-reviewed publications in premier journals
    2. Ongoing robust research program
    3. Success in writing and acquiring grants
  • Demonstrated excellence in college-level teaching
    1. Examples of student and/or peer teaching evaluations
    2. Selected examples of curriculum development
    3. Experience with graduate student mentoring
    4. Experience in team-based teaching and/or research
  • A record of academic and/or professional leadership
    1. Department/campus leadership service
    2. Professional organization leadership
    3. Academic and professional service
  • Relevant industry experience preferred

      OSU Merchandising Management Program

      Merchandising Management (MM) is currently one of four majors offered in the School of Design and Human Environment (SDHE) in the College of Business. In next 2-5 years, MM will become a business major under AASCB Accreditation. MM in the COB provides a unique combination of design, merchandising and business curriculum that respond to fast changing apparel and textile industries in global contexts. In its partnership with design programs in the COB, MM provides integrated curriculum embracing both creativity and analytical skills. MM currently serves approximately 400 undergraduate majors.
